From the Pastor
I read a quote by an anonymous author that makes the intriguing assertion that “the service
we render to others is really the rent we pay for our room on this earth”. I like that. In other
words, our purpose as followers of Christ is not ‘to have and to hold’ but ‘to give and to serve’.
The greatest sense of fulfillment we receive in life comes through giving ourselves in service
to God and others. Jesus said, “Whoever wants to become great among you must be your
servant” (Mark 10:44).
That’s why our purpose statement here at FBCC is simple and to the point. Serve God by
serving others. That’s it. That’s what we’re to be about. That is to be the focus of our lives.
So how do we go about accomplishing this lofty mission? We do it by…
Striving to honor and glorify God from the heart
Exercising faithful devotion to God’s Word and will
Relating to each other in mutual love and respect
Venturing to reach our world for Christ, beginning where we are
Extending a hand of Christ-like compassion to every person
As you may have noticed, these five statements correspond with the five purpose of the
church; worship, discipleship, fellowship, evangelism, and ministry. Whether you’re a
longtime member, a new member, or a prospective one, I challenge you to join us on this
mission to change our world through Christ-like, compassionate, servant leadership!
